The Lantern Walk

This July, St Oswald’s Hospice will be joined by hundreds of people from across the region, on a very special walk in memory of our loved ones. We would love for you to be part of an evening of celebration and join us for the 2017 Lantern Walk at the Rising Sun Country Park on Saturday 1st July.

The Lantern Walk is a moving and poignant celebration of life and the chance to reflect on those we love, but are no longer with us.

You do not need to have any previous connection to St Oswald's to remember someone in this way.

In partnership with Smooth Radio and sponsored by Weightwatchers, The Lantern Walk is an opportunity for you and your family and friends to come together and walk a 5km route at The Rising Sun Country Park, Newcastle in memory of a loved one.

The fundraising walk takes place at dusk and walkers will carry a paper lantern to light the way along the route as the sun sets, in celebration of the life of the person or people they are remembering. Walkers are encouraged to make a donation or raise funds for St Oswald’s in memory of their loved one to help fund the care of patients both now and in the future. The event will open with music and entertainment from Smooth Radio’s Steve Colman before the walk begins.

We ask that all Lantern Walk participants aim to raise £100 towards the work of St Oswald’s, in your loved ones memory. We understand that while some people will raise in excess of this, others may not be able to do so, and that is absolutely fine! This is simply a target amount to aim for, and our fundraising pack you will receive on signing up contains lots of helpful hints and tips to help you, whatever your target may be.  We want the event to be accessible to everyone who wants to join in and we will be extremely grateful for any sponsorship or donations raised for St Oswald’s Hospice.

    Dedicate a lantern in memory

If you would like to remember a loved one through our Lantern Walk campaign but do not wish to take part in the walk, you can make a donation to St Oswald’s Hospice and dedicate a lantern in our display of light. On the evening of the walk, each lantern will glow in memory of someone special, and for a donation towards our work, we will add a lantern for the person you wish to remember.

    So Web Donate

You will then receive a letter after the event with a photograph of the lanterns, and you are more than welcome to come along on the night to see the display and cheer our walkers on.

    Lantern Walk Memory Wall

This year, we have created an online memory wall. Whether you are walking with us or simply want to make a kind donation, we would love to add a photo of your loved one to our Memory Wall.

Once you have signed up to join or walk or made a donation in memory, please email a photograph to us at enquiries@stoswaldsuk.org stating your loved ones name. Their dedication will then appear on our online Memory Wall.

Thank you for considering taking part in our Lantern Walk campaign. All funds raised through your sponsorship and donations will support our vital work with local adults, young people and children in our community. For every £100 raised, we can provide 5 hours of specialist nursing care to an adult or child with a life-limiting illness.

If you have any further questions, please contact us on 0191 246 9123. We would love to walk with you this summer, and remember those special people who mean so much to us.
