St Oswald’s Staff Nurse, Judy Hunter is taking on the 140 mile Coast to Coast cycle challenge later this month to raise money for the Gosforth based Hospice.
Judy, who lives in Whitley Bay is doing the challenge with her husband Nick (Director of sixth form life at Kings Priory School). They are hoping to complete the cycle in three days, cycling from Whitehaven, Cumbria to Tynemouth. Judy said:
St Oswald’s is a charity close to both of our hearts and I feel privileged to work on the Inpatient Unit. I’m able to see first-hand how much difference the care we provide makes to patients and their families. The charity is amazing. I’m always inspired by the positivity people show in extremely difficult circumstances. It is so important that they are supported in every possible way and I honestly believe that at St Oswald’s we are able to provide that support. I hope that if I start to struggle on the cycle I’ll be able to show as much positivity as our patients and complete the challenge.
Judy also ran the Great North Run for St Oswald’s and is determined to achieve her Life List Silver Award. Judy continued:
The Coast to Coast isn’t the first time I’ve taken part in an event for St Oswald’s. I ran the Great North Run a few years ago and by completing this challenge I’m hoping to reach my goal of raising £1000 and achieve my Life List Silver Award.
St Oswald’s is encouraging other people, inspired by Judy’s story, to make 2017 the year they achieve something they have always wanted to do, by getting involved in their Life List campaign. The Life List asks supporters what challenge or adventure they have always meant to do but never got round to organising and helps them to make it happen. The supporter will then raise funds through sponsorship for the Hospice, along with making their own ambition reality.
St Oswald’s offers everything from runs, cycles, climbs, swims as well as other less physical challenges. The full range of activities on offer and more information is available from our lifelist page.
Danielle Callender, Community Fundraiser at St Oswald’s said:
We’re thrilled that Judy and Nick have decided to support St Oswald’s with their Coast to Coast challenge. It will be an incredible achievement and we are so grateful for their support. Each year we need to raise over £7million to continue providing care to North East adults, young people and children. We receive an amazing amount of support from the local community and we couldn’t do it with the support of people like Judy and Nick. Good luck to you both!
