Meet Mary Moore. Mary is a lymphoedema volunteer from Seaton Delaval and this year, she has volunteered at the Hospice for 17 years. What an amazing achievement!
She first started volunteering at St Oswald’s when she retired as something different to do and has never looked back.
Mary said: “I love volunteering in the lymphoedema department; so much so that I fear one day they’ll tell me I’m too old!
“I volunteer on a Friday, and I never make any other plans, as I call Friday ‘Hospice Day’.
“It is amazing to have seen the lymphoedema service grow in the time I’ve been here. When I started volunteering it was just one consulting room, we now have a huge suite of consulting rooms and outreach clinics in three other locations in the North East.
“Volunteering is so rewarding, and because I have been here so many years, the patients know me – it’s lovely to have built that relationship with them.”
