St Oswald's has managed to raise over £850 after several supporters completed the Mad March Mare obstacle course at Hexham racecourse.
Mad March Mare is an annual event which requires participants to take on a 10km course whilst tackling a selection of obstacles including a giant haystack, shoulder deep water and a mudslide.
Organised by Challenge Northumberland, Mad March Mare took place at Hexham Racecourse on Saturday 4th March. St Oswald’s were one of two nominated charities to directly benefit from the event, and had over 20 runners representing the local hospice. To date, over £850 has been raised with more funds expected.
Yvonne Storey, who ran the course in support of St Oswald’s said:
“As a last minute replacement for someone who was unable to make it, I had no time to prepare or train. But with the huge support and encouragement of all of the other runners from St Oswald's I managed to get round the entire course in an impressive time. The course was extremely varied and we had some pretty tough obstacles to overcome including climbing over a giant haystack and getting through shoulder-deep water. The sense of relief and achievement at the end of the course was a fantastic feeling. The atmosphere was electric and everybody was working together to encourage each other. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would do it again without hesitation! I would highly recommend the Mad March Mare as a fantastic way to fundraise. The fact we had this much fun whilst raising money for a fantastic charity like St Oswald's is the icing on the cake."

"I’ve been coming to the Mad March Mare for over three years now and each time I thoroughly enjoy myself. The course is totally unique and there isn't anything else like it near to the Hospice. The course can be hugely challenging, particularly if the weather is against you, but it is massively enjoyable too. All of our fantastic supporters had a great day at the course and have all said they would gladly do it again. We'd like to say a huge thank you to all of our supporters for their fantastic fundraising efforts and to Challenge Northumberland for pulling off another fantastic day."
St Oswald’s has a selection of challenges available to supporters of all ages and abilities which can be found on our website, as part of the ‘Life List.’
