Businesses from across the region came together on Wednesday for a charity rugby match to support St Oswald’s.
The match, which pitted North East and Yorkshire property businesses against each other, was held at the Northern Football Club in Gosforth, Newcastle. The inaugural event attracted 200 guests including over 21 sponsors from around the region. Those in attendance were treated to various stalls including; a hog roast, a bar, raffles, competitions and a half-time touch rugby game. The North East team were declared victorious at the end of the match and various awards and presentations were handed out to those triumphant.
St Oswald’s were happy to report a ‘scrum’ for raffle tickets with hundreds being sold throughout the afternoon. Prizes being awarded to lucky winners included; an overnight stay at Hotel Indigo, a signed Man City shirt, Newcastle Falcons tickets, a St Oswald’s hamper and two men’s shavers donated by Coty (formally P&G).
Dougie Cranston, Capital Markets Partner at Knight Frank, said:
This is the first time we have ever organised a rugby match. We’ve been attempting to put together a regional rugby team for some time, so the chance to enjoy a fantastic sport which is closely linked with the property industry whilst simultaneously raising money for charity, was an opportunity we couldn’t miss! When it came to choosing which local charity to support, it was a no-brainer. St Oswald’s has such a huge presence within the region and has a proud and well-earned reputation for delivering exceptional care to those with life-limiting conditions. There are few families in the region whose lives have not been touched by the incredible work St Oswald’s does.
Siobhan Sargeant, Corporate Fundraiser at St Oswald’s said:
We’re thrilled to have been selected as the chosen charity at this year’s inaugural rugby match. Knight Frank, GVA and Silverstone have done a fantastic job organising the match and the day itself has been fantastic. The day was also a fantastic networking opportunity for the Hospice as we were introduced to several companies from across the North East who were keen to become more involved in the work St Oswald’s does. We rely hugely on the support we get from corporate sponsors as we need to raise an additional £7 Million each year to continue to keep our doors open and provide the level of care we do. We are so grateful to all those involved in making the day a huge success.
