Lee Gibson along with his brother Neil and sister, Lisa, from Forrest Hall decided to complete a walk and hold a raffle in memory of his mam who died at the Hospice 20 years ago. We caught up with Lee to find out more.
“My mam passed at St Oswald’s on 18th October, 2001 and ever since we have supported the hospice. It was a great, magical place for us as we often visited as kids whilst my mam was receiving treatment. The whole family were cared for whilst she was there and it means so much to us still.
“I’ve done a lot for St Oswald’s over the years, held race nights, I donate to the charity shops, go out with collection buckets and even have sweet boxes in my work. The one thing I will always remember is someone said to us the money needed to provide services at the hospice was raised by the public. To provide the care that my mam was receiving, the money had to be raised in the community and that’s how you and everyone at St Oswald’s provides the amazing work you do to keep the place running. That’s our main reason we keep supporting to this day.
“To mark the 20th anniversary of my mams passing and to celebrate her birthday, we decided to do a walk in her memory. It was something all ages could get involved with, including my nieces and nephews which was important for us. Around 40 people completed the walk with us and it was amazing to see everyone get involved by supporting or donating. On the day we raised about £190 which I was over the moon with.
“Overall we’ve hit about £2370 on our JustGiving page and we honestly can’t believe it. We wanted to remember my mam in a special way, and thanks to friends and family this was done perfectly. We can’t thank your team enough for greeting us when we finished, providing refreshments and being so accommodating to us, we really appreciated it. Thank you for all you do.”
