We recently announced the winning numbers in our Kieran Trippier Football Shirt raffle, and the brilliant news that ticket sales have raised £5,500 for the hospice.
We had the lovely job of letting the lucky winners know the good news, and we invited them into the hospice to congratulate them in person, as well as hand over their prizes.
Mrs Janice Shearer (no relation to the Toon Army legend) was the winner of the Newcastle United shirt that Kieran wore in a recent match against Manchester City. Janice was delighted to hear the news of her win, but not as much as her grandson Bobby, 9 will be when he hears he is the lucky recipient of the prize!
Our second winner was Cliff Burr, who is now the proud owner of a signed England shirt that Kieran wore in the 150th Anniversary Heritage Friendly Match against Scotland at Hampden Park in September. As a proud Scotsman, this match doesn’t hold very happy memories for Cliff, with England winning 3-1. But his son Hamish, an England fan and Newcastle United supporter, was delighted when his dad broke news of his win.
Cliff has supported the hospice for several years now, playing our weekly lottery, entering our Annual Big Car Raffle and supporting our Christmas Tree-cycle campaign. He added:
“I live locally and first became aware of the hospice when I worked at Tyne Tees and we covered a story about the charity. Since then, I have helped in whichever way I can and when I saw the raffle tickets on sale, I thought I would enter in support. I can’t believe I actually won!”
