Putt-ing the swing into spring at our second Corporate Golf Day

It was another tee-rific Tuesday on the golf course, as golfers from across the North East attended the second, corporate Golf Day in support of St Oswald’s Hospice.

Despite the grey and cloudy conditions, our teams brought the enthusiasm, excitement and even the jazzy shorts to ensure another successful and memorable event.

Held at the City of Newcastle Golf Club, and kindly sponsored by Lynx Precast and Wingrove Motor Company, our golfers were able to enjoy a delicious breakfast whilst connecting with fellow businesses before heading out to onto the course.

An 18-hole round of Texas Scramble Style Golf commenced at 10am with teams making their way around the course, and enjoying a series of additional games and challenges including Closest to the Pin, Hole in One and Beat the Pro.

Golf Day 2024 (3)

Tee-ing up an appetite...

On completion of the golf, it was back to the clubhouse for a well-earned two-course lunch before a short talk about the difference St Oswald’s Hospice makes in the lives of our patients and their families.

Stephen Pape, whose daughter Sophie (14) comes to St Oswald’s Hospice for monthly short breaks, shared about the ways in which the Hospice enables them both to spend quality time together.

A fan of the great outdoors, Stephen also talked about the various challenges he has taken part in to “give something back” to St Oswald’s Hospice. In 2023, he completed the 100 Miler Cycling Challenge, a Zip-Wire across the River Tyne and the Great North Run. Later this year, he’ll join our group of trekkers as they head to Vietnam for a 5-day trek and to participate in a community project, supporting a local, palliative care unit.

Attention then turned to prize auction, led by the fabulous Alfie Joey, where bidders were in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets to Lindisfarne Festival, a luxury glamping trip and even the hire of a Bratwurst Van!

Before drawing the event to an official close, it was time to announce our winners.
