Tee-riffic turnout for Northern Bear Golf Tournament

The annual Northern Bear charity golf tournament, held on 4 October at the Ramside Hall, Durham, raised £10,000 for St Oswald’s Hospice.

A total of 88 golfers took part in teams of four representing companies from the Northern Bear group and its clients and suppliers. One of the sponsors, Pullman Volkswagen, added to the excitement by offering a new VW Polo for anyone who hit a hole-in-one at the 6th hole. Unfortunately no one managed to bag the special prize, but the team from VW Pulman went on to win the tournament. Participants were also treated to an extraordinary show by widely acknowledged champion of ‘trick shot golf’ David Edwards.

The relationship between Northern Bear and St Oswald’s Hospice started in 2016 when the company chose the hospice as its local ‘charity of choice’ to help commemorate a decade of trading on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange. Since then Northern Bear has raised over £40,000 for St Oswald’s Hospice through a variety of fundraising initiatives and have been enthusiastic attendees of our annual ball.

The Northern Bear group is a family of building businesses with deep roots in the local community. We are delighted to support St Oswald’s Hospice which does so much to help local people and their families with compassionate care when they need it most.

Danielle Callender, Community Fundraiser at St Oswald’s Hospice, said: “I was delighted to attend Northern Bear’s second annual Golf Tournament in aid of St Oswald’s. They were wonderful hosts, as always, and very attentive to all who participated. It was a pleasure to work with them again and we are extremely grateful of their on-going support. Everyone had a wonderful day. As a hospice we need to raise £7.5m a year through voluntary giving to keep our doors open. Without the generosity of companies like Northern Bear putting on event such as this, we couldn’t keep offering the high level of care we provide.”
