The couple run a small, online family business, DJL Handcrafted Waggler Floats, named after the initials of the couple plus their daughter Lillie, and decided to fundraise after someone known to Darren was recently cared for at the hospice.
Darren said: “We wanted to raise some funds for the hospice by donating a percentage of sales made from our online shop throughout August and September as a good friend of mine, Stacey Pentland, has been receiving care at St Oswald’s Hospice. Stacey’s wish is to raise awareness of the fantastic work the charity does, so Jenna and I wanted to do out bit and are only too happy to help.
“St Oswald’s has also supported my sister Kerry’s friend, Julie, who recently passed away from cancer. My sister has been full of praise for the hospice and the care provided, including allowing her to come to visit her friend and enjoy an afternoon tea with her It meant such a lot to them both.”
As well as donating a percentage of his profits, Darren decided to raffle off some of his beautiful handmade fishing floats on his business Facebook page to help boost his final total raised to a brilliant £355.
Thank you to Darren and Jenna for supporting the hospice in this way and to all of his online customers who bought a float or entered the raffle. The money raised will be put to good use, allowing our staff to support patients like Stacey and Julie across the North East community.
You can find out more about Darren’s handmade floats on his website or on Facebook.
