River Tyne Sky Zip

Zipline across the River Tyne and enjoy an exhilarating and unforgettable experience for adventure seekers, all while raising funds for St Oswald’s Hospice!

Sunday 18th August 2024 | Time: 10 - 11am

We’ve teamed up with event company Jelly Legs to offer you the opportunity to experience the thrill of ziplining, while raising funds for St Oswald’s Hospice!

Your adventure will start on Newcastle’s Quayside where you will be kitted up ready to be raised 125ft in the air by crane. Daredevils will then zip 240metres over the River Tyne reaching speeds of up to 30mph, taking in the views of the Millennium Bridge and Quayside before landing safely on Baltic Square, Gateshead. It’s certainly not for the faint-hearted but it is undoubtedly an experience of a lifetime! Fully trained staff from Jelly Legs will ensure your adventure is as safe as it is thrilling.

It costs £45 per participant to take part and we ask that you aim to raise sponsorship for St Oswald’s Hospice. There isn’t a set amount we ask you to raise, but every penny will make a difference. Our team will provide sponsor forms and support with ideas to help you hit the target, and all participants will receive a St Oswald’s Hospice sports vest to wear on the day to show your support to the charity. The money you raise will support the patients and families who rely on the services at the hospice, allowing our teams to offer care, comfort and a hand to hold. Thank you.

Please note: Due to safety reasons, there are weight restrictions for this event. Participants must weigh between 6 stone (38kg) & 16 stone (101kg) in order to participate in the zip. You will be asked to confirm this upon registration.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Jelly Legs have answered some frequently asked questions below:

No, but there are weight restrictions for safety reasons. Participants must weigh between 6 stone (38kg) & 16 stone (101kg) in order to zip.

ALL participants will be weighed on arrival to ensure that the minimum or maximum weight restrictions are met. Please note that if you do not meet the weight requirements, no refund will be given. Also, it is important to note that these activities can be mentally and physically challenging.

Yes, Jelly Legs are keen to provide people with disabilities and medical conditions the opportunity to take part. They would be happy to discuss the details but advise that you contact your GP for guidance. It is important to understand what is involved with a zip slide. The harness will go around your hips and waist, and that all your body weight will be held by the harness for the duration of the slide. Participants travel down the wire at approximately 25-35mph and are stopped manually with a braking line. The resulting impact does jerk the body and participants with any existing medical conditions, such as back or neck injuries should contact their GP prior to booking.

Participants will be fitted with a chest harness and waist harness and helmet.

Obviously, the weather can be unpredictable and there is an element of waiting around so we advise participants to wear comfortable clothing and footwear, which will keep them warm and dry.

Fancy dress can be accommodated where harness, helmet, etc. can be fitted over the costume. However, Jelly Legs reserve the right to refuse the participation of someone in fancy dress if they think the costume will compromise the safety of the participant. If you have long hair, please tie it up.

Registration is on the Newcastle Quayside, near the Blacksmiths Needle, What-3-Words – Ship.Valley.Stars or postcode NE1 3DX. If you are attending with a minor who is zipping, then a parent/guardian would need to stay with them until they zip, and a parent/guardian would also need to be at the landing zone to meet them.

Please arrive to register 30 minutes before your time slot, we intend to zip all participants within their allotted time slot however if a few people get “Jelly Legs” and take a little longer to take the plunge we may run a little late. If you are running late or you have missed your time slot, please call us on 07572 774 186 or see a member of our team at either the registration or landing zone as soon as possible. If you fail to arrive no refund will be given.

After registration you will be kitted up and briefed by our zip team. Every participant will be weighed to ensure you meet the minimum or maximum weight restrictions. You will be provided a helmet and a harness. When it’s your turn, take a deep breath and GO FOR IT and enjoy!! Screaming and shouting is encouraged!

The landing zone is on Baltic Square, What-3-Words: Vist.Cute.Pepper or Postcode NE8 3BA. Please listen to zip staff as they will be speaking to you to assist you on landing. When you have finished your zip please follow directions to be de-kitted.

There are no facilities to secure any personal belongings so please leave them with friends or family. The Tyne has claimed several mobiles and wallets from previous zips so please ensure they are in a zipped or secure pocket if you are zipping with them!

You can zip with a GOPRO etc, but these must be securely fastened to you, if not the zip team will ask you to remove before zipping. Jelly Legs and St Oswald’s Hospice cannot be held responsible for loss or damage to your personal items.
