Jane Hamblin, Facilities Manager at St Oswald’s Hospice attended the awards evening at the Mansion House in Jesmond with Stuart Franklin (JDDK Architects), Andy Ray (Applebridge Building Services) and Glen Kemp (Glenkemp Ltd). Jane said:
“It was an absolute honour to attend the event with the ‘dream team’ that made the Family Room and garden possible and collect the awards on behalf of St Oswald’s Hospice. The difference that the garden and family room has made has been phenomenal. The room and garden is so much more accessible for patients and their families. We’ve been able to use the space to create special events and memories for our patients such as renewal of wedding vows, date nights, spa days, movie nights, afternoon teas and more. If we didn’t have these areas we wouldn’t have been able to do all of this.”
A family member told us:
“Situated in the centre of a beautiful serene garden, St Oswald’s family room is a place that soothed me while I came to terms with the nearing departure of my mother. The room is light and airy and the large windows on all sides allow the sunshine to stream in on a lovely day. It’s decorated to feel like a comfy room at home and the atmosphere allows you to forget the medical care setting elsewhere in the building giving a feeling of being at home.”
Huge thanks to JDDK Architects, Applebridge Building Services and Glenkemp Ltd for creating these relaxing spaces with a home-from-home atmosphere and to all our wonderful supporters who made this work possible.
