Meet Melody

Meet Melody, one of our Lymphoedema Practitioners.

Moving from Hong Kong two years ago, Melody was delighted to get a job at St Oswald’s Hospice in 2023, to support patients with Lymphoedema and to “improve their quality of life.”

What is your role?

Lymphoedema Practitioner.

How long have you worked at St Oswald’s Hospice?

Since summer 2023.

What attracted you to the role?

I moved from Hong Kong two years ago. When I decided to come to the UK, I always wanted to get a role as an occupational therapist. I applied for the position of lymphoedema practitioner because I think hospices do such a great job of looking after their patients – and their families.

What does your role involve?

I assess and review swelling and bandaging and work with my patients to find out the best way to manage their Lymphoedema or Lipoedema – sometimes it’s both!

Could you describe hospice care in three words?

Patient-centred, empowering and caring.

What would you say to someone worried about coming to the Hospice for Lymphoedema care?

I understand that if you receive an appointment from a hospice it could be confusing seeing the word “hospice”. But we don’t just see palliative patients – we even see children! We are here to help our patients find out the best way to manage their Lymphoedema – so it becomes less of a barrier in their daily lives.

Thanks for all you do, Melody!
