Be part of our Sahara Challenge and do something great in 2018!

Are you looking for a new challenge? In November 2018, we will be trekking to the largest hot desert in the world for an eight day adventure of a lifetime through the Moroccan Sahara and we need people to join our team! This is the perfect opportunity to get together with colleagues on the ultimate team building challenge, or just go it alone and tick something off your own Life List

Taking place from 3rd – 10th November 2018, our Sahara Challenge in partnership with Different Travel,  is more than just a charity trek. As well as discovering a remote, exotic and beautiful landscape, tasting phenomenal cuisine and gaining insight into local culture, you will be able to make a real difference by taking part in a community project in Marrakech.

Accompanied by professional English-speaking Berber guides who have an excellent knowledge of culture and hiking in the region, you will spend two full days and two half days trekking across ancient dried up river beds, sand dunes and vast sun-baked plains. Camping each night gives you a chance to experience the stunning stars in the night sky (weather permitting) and the traditional Berber cuisine.

We want to make the trek accessible to as many people as possible, and as such have chosen a trek which is rated moderately challenging for someone of a good fitness level. The terrain is generally flat with sand dunes representing the biggest variation in gradient; however the temperatures will pose a specific challenge with temperatures historically reaching 40°C. You are advised to be of a good fitness level before departure to ensure fast recovery from each day’s exertions. You must be 18+ to participate on this trek unaccompanied. It may be possible to participate if you are 16 or 17 years old but you will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is no upper age limit. The ideal trekker would be fit, healthy and determined, open to adventure and adaptable to unexpected changes.

The trek aims to raise over £96,000 to support the work we do here at the Hospice, with local adults, young people and children. We understand that fundraising towards a trek is a big commitment, so for the Sahara Challenge, we are pleased to announce our lowest ever minimum sponsorship target for a trek. You can secure your place for a registration fee of £275 and we ask that you raise a minimum of £2750 in sponsorship, with our team on hand to support you all the way. Did you know that many organisations support their employees with charity fundraising though match-funding. If your company match-fund it can make a huge difference to your fundraising total – why not ask them is this is something they offer?

Your sponsorship includes return flights, all transfers & transport in Morocco, accommodation in 3 star hotels, tents & sleeping mats on trek, all meals, local guides, camels & camel handlers on trek, project materials and coordination, Different Travel tour manager. Personal expenses e.g. drinks, souvenirs etc., any vaccinations required and trekking kit.
