Santa spreads Christmas cheer to all

We’ve started Christmas in style this year with a record-breaking Christmas Market total! We’d like to say a huge thank you to all of our staff, volunteers, stall holders, and of course, our supporters who visited and donated towards the day. Without you we couldn’t have raised the £18,500 making it a joint record-breaking total!

There was a joyful buzz in the air as children sang carols welcoming the eager market goers into the Hospice. Buttons from Cinderella, Elsa and Anna as well as many other princesses and characters cut the ribbon and announced the market officially open.

Children and adults alike had smiles reaching from ear to ear as their senses tingled throughout the market. Each corner awoke a difference sense, straight away seeing the flashing lights on the fire engine and police car, then out of the corner of your eye the alpacas were eating in their pen. People ran to pet the alpacas and take them for short walks. Entering the Hospice the smells drifted through the corridors of pastries, sausages and other freshly baked items, lining the market with a homely, welcoming feel.

Santa was busy in his grotto all day, meeting the children and babies who couldn’t contain their excitement to see the big man himself. With a loud Ho Ho Ho, his laughter was infectious to all, his Christmas spirit clung onto everyone who visited him.

Laura Hargreaves, Fundraiser at St Oswald's Hospice said:

We had a lovely day at the Christmas market this year and I hope you did too. I’d like to say a special thanks to everyone who came along to help make this year a success, including; Hartbeeps, Double Decker Den, Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade, Northumbria Police, Alpaca Encounters, Geordie Bangers and many, many more.

The market gets better every year and it wouldn't be as much of a success if it wasn't for our supporters and volunteers who come along year after year, thank you!

We’ve popped a small gallery on of all the festive fun we had as well as our raffle and games winners below. We hope you’ll join us next year to mark the beginning of your Christmas season.

We hope you have a lovely Christmas and a joyful New Year.
