Our biggest ever Shop Takeover Challenge is set to take place next week (Friday 19 August) as staff from Anchor Housing take control of five of our charity shops on the same day.
The synchronised mass takeover will see Anchor teams deployed across our North Shields, Jesmond, Whitley Bay, Sunderland and Gosforth charity shops. Teams will then go head-to-head in an attempt to surpass their shop’s daily income target in exchange for highly coveted points.
Using skill, charm and elbow grease, teams will be fully responsible for running their designated shops, from managing stock, window dressing, and helping customers, to undertaking special challenges to earn bonus points.
Andrew Moir, Head of Retail at St Oswald’s Hospice, said: “We are thrilled to be working with the staff from Anchor Housing on what will be the biggest simultaneous shop takeover we have ever been involved in.
“The shop takeovers are competitive between teams and we are looking forward to seeing how they perform.”
David Wood, Anchor’s Community Partnership Manager for North Shields helped to organise the event. He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to work with such an established North East charity and support them in the good work that they do.
“The day will be great fun and continues with the many charity events we organise or support throughout the year. We hope members of the community will support this challenge and help raise money for such a worthwhile charity.”
The five Shop Takeover Challenge extravaganza starts at 8.30am on Friday 19 August, ending at 4.30pm when the shops close. The overall winner – the team with the most points - will be announced at the end of the day.
Andrew finished: “As a charity, St Oswald’s Hospice relies heavily on the support of our community, including our corporate partnerships such as this with Anchor Housing. It is only through this support that we can continue to provide specialist care to thousands of North East patients and their families.
“This year St Oswald's celebrates 30 years of care so we would like to say thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last three decades.”
