St Oswald’s Dunston furniture shop is preparing to unveil a spectacular scene as part of its annual Christmas window showcase, thanks to help from local writer and theatre maker Becci Sharrock.
The shop’s highly anticipated window display has become a locally-renowned festive tradition within the close-knit Dunston community, attracting the masses eager to experience the creative visuals.
Becci, from Gateshead commented: “I’ve been volunteering for St Oswald’s since July and it’s been a fantastic experience. When I heard about the Christmas window at Dunston, I wanted to see if there was anything I could do to help, and any way of combining my writing and theatre background with what was already a brilliant regular event.”
Set to be revealed on Thursday 7 December, this year’s festivities will feature a ‘wintery woodland wonderland’ theme, kindly curated by Becci, who has also written a special story for St Oswald’s to mark the occasion.
Christmas Eve in the Wintery Woodland Wonderland tells the tale of woodland animals, who spring to Santa’s aid as he crashes into the forest on his sleigh.
Visitors to the special shop window unveiling will receive a copy of Becci’s story from St Oswald’s, to keep and enjoy for Christmases to come.
And that’s not all, as the Dunston shop team once again welcomes more festive cheer from the St Philip Neri Roman Catholic Primary School choir to join in with the celebrations, with youngsters performing Christmas songs to entertain the crowds.
Vicki Tomlinson, retail area manager at St Oswald’s Hospice said: “Our Dunston shop’s Christmas window has established itself as a must-see event for the local community over the past four years and this time it will be extra special, thanks to Becci’s creative talents.
“We can’t wait to welcome visitors of all ages to the big reveal, which promises a truly magical afternoon.”
The window will be unveiled on Thursday 7 December at 2.30pm and will be displayed until the shop closes for the festive break on Firday 22 December.
Open Monday to Friday, from 9am-4.30pm, St Oswald’s Dunston furniture shop can be found at 13/16 Ellison Road, Dunston, NE11 9SS (opposite Aldi).
All profits from the shop contribute towards the excess of £7.5 million the Hospice needs to raise through voluntary giving each year, to continue providing specialist care to thousands of North East families.
