Last year, the first Pavel Cup, in memory of much loved Newcastle United goal keeper Pavel Srníček, attracted hundreds of guests and raised £5,000 for St Oswald’s Hospice. Football fans flocked to see much loved local heroes like Nobby Solano back on the pitch at a special day of celebration.
The Pavel Cup is back this year and the event organisers, Newcastle legends tell us it will be even bigger and better, offering more for families including a display by Riverside Falconry, face painting, refreshments and stalls. Those attending will see NUFC legends take on a Felling Old Boys team, who are playing in memory of their talismanic goal scorer Chris Heron, who died in an accident 2017.
The Pavel Cup will take place at Dunston UTS on Sunday 9th July, gates open at 12 noon. Adults tickets are £8 and children’s tickets are £3.50. Tickets are available from http://www.newcastlelegends.com/
Newcastle United Legends Keith Gillespie, Steve Harper, Peter Beardsley and Steve Howey have already been confirmed with other big names to be announced nearer to the event.
St Oswald were looking forward to welcoming Pavel Srníček as an ambassador and were saddened to hear of his death. We are honoured to have been chosen as beneficiaries of this event, which is a fitting tribute to a real local legend.
