Rackstar Ltd, an IT service outsourcing company, recently held a charity day in aid of St Oswald’s. A company which boasts 65 apprentices, Rackstar Ltd ensured the day was guaranteed to be full of food, laughter and waxing. After raising an impressive £468, we caught up with some of the team to find out how the day went.
Catherine Littlewood, Level 3 Infrastructure Technician said:
I was over the moon when the final total came in, especially as we’d only planned the charity event in 3 days! It was really exciting to do something different and everyone really got involved. The bake sale was a massive success with some tasty treats being served up. We had; cakes, brownies, rocky roads and cookies, all homemade! I think that was everyone’s favourite bit, but I loved the waxing. People donated money per strip to wax someone’s legs, our trainees put themselves forward to get waxed, it was hilarious.
Rackstar managed to raise the money through selling annual raffle tickets, holding a bake sale, a dress down day, and selling leg waxing strips. They also played games such as; guess how many sweets are in the jar, guess the name of the teddy and guess whose baby photo is who.
Ken Mosely, Company Director of Rackstar commented:
It was such a fun day, we definitely want to do this more in the future. We’re hoping to do a dress down day once a month and then a big event every few months. I volunteer at the Forest Hall shop and can see the difference all the donations make.
One of our team members was cared for by St Oswald’s and he sadly passed away at the age of 29 in February. Since then we’ve wanted to give back to the Hospice as the care he received was invaluable. We’ve started with little events but we’d love to grow our charity days each time. I’d love to do a Shop Takeover and possibly have our business take over all 28 shops at once! It would be a great competition for everyone.
Helen Alderson, Senior Fundraiser at St Oswald’s commented:
Rackstar have raised an incredible sum for us, with the support of their 65 apprentices! It’s always great fun when I visit the company and I can’t wait to work with them in the future. The Hospice needs to raise £7.5 million a year through charitable giving, the money raised from this event could go towards a days’ worth of nursing care and without this we could not provide the high level of care to all of our patients.
