Relive the legendary moments at the Pavel Cup 2018

Our Dunston Shop have outdone themselves this year by revealing a very black and white football themed shop window.

It’s that time of year again where Newcastle Legends and celebrities get together to play a football match in memory of Newcastle Goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek.  Pavel died suddenly in December 2015 and in order to remember and honour his legacy, Steve Wraith and his team at Newcastle Legends set up the Pavel Cup.

This is the third annual game since its launch in 2016 and this year’s match will include familiar faces from the previous events. Stars such as Steve Howey, Peter Beardsley, Darren Peacock, the Newcastle Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Britain’s Got Talent finalist Danny Posthill and many more will take to the pitch.

We’re delighted to exclusively announce that ex-Newcastle legend, Steve Watson will be in attendance, alongside Steve Harper coaching the Newcastle Legends team. To mark this occasion our Dunston Furniture Shop launched the event in style by unveiling a football-inspired window display on Monday 18th June.

Steve Howey was one of the first people to see the unveiling of the shop window, saying afterwards that:

There’s so much to look at in the window it looks great! I’m excited for the Pavel Cup this year; it just gets better every year. It’ll be a great day, it always is, it’s just a great bunch of people getting together to play football and we’ve got some great faces getting involved and I honestly can’t wait.

Steve Wraith, Managing Director of Newcastle Legends added:

We’re really excited this year as we have Steve Watson coming along helping Steve Harper with the coaching. I think it’s great, any youngster coming along gets to watch the legends play and it’s fantastic. This year is going to be bigger and better than before, we love to remember our good friend Pavel and supporting St Oswald’s is so important to us because it was a charity close to Pavel and his family.

As well as the main event, the day will also provide fun for all the family with a selection of food stalls, a bar, bird handling displays from Riverside Falconry, an inflatable bowling alley and face painting.

Siobhan Sargeant, Business Partnerships Manager at St Oswald’s added:

We were thrilled with the unveiling at our Dunston store. The entire team worked tirelessly to put together a fantastic display which we’re confident will inspire many local shoppers to buy tickets for the 2018 Pavel Cup.

At last year’s event we managed to attract over 1,000 people and raised more than £5,000 at last year’s event and we’re confident that this year, with the promotion we’ve received and the big name stars who’ve signed up, that we can beat last year’s total.

The Pavel Cup 2018 will be held on Sunday July 8 at the Dunston UTS Stadium. Gates open at noon with a 1pm kick-off. Tickets are priced at £4 for kids and £8 for adults and are available from http://www.newcastlelegends.com/?page_id=375
