Running for Team St Oswald's just got Better

We are delighted to announce that Better leisure centres in Newcastle have sponsored our 2018 Junior and Mini Great North Run team.

The ever popular run takes place on Saturday 8th and Team St Oswald’s has a massive 455 boys and girls aged between 3-16 who will run the course through Newcastle and Gateshead’s iconic Quayside. Better have sponsored the running t-shirts that the team will wear on the day.

Some of the young runners were recently invited to Better's Necastle Trampoline Park and Gym on West Road, to put their new sponsored t-shirts through their paces. As well as modelling for photos, the children tried out their best jumps and bounces on the centre’s range of equipment.

The Better team will be showing support to the children at the run too, with company representatives joining in the fun and volunteering as cheerleaders for the day.

As well as putting their name to our vests, the Better team has been offering their support in a number of ways since teaming up with St Oswald’s. They have kindly provided prizes for our events including bowling passes and trampoline sessions and are planning a Beach Party family event on 2nd August at Better, Eldon Leisure Centre to raise funds. We will also be working with the Better team to look at different activities the children and young adults who use our services can take part in across their six leisure centres in Newcastle, which they are really looking forward to!

Better has put together a range of exclusive offers for people fundraising for the hospice during 2018/19. Adults taking part in the Great North Run, children running in the junior and mini race and families taking on the Clarty Bairns muddy obstacle course in support of St Oswald’s will be sent some special offers to access Better centres and activities at discounted prices.

Tim Bestford, Head of Service for Newcastle and York at better, commented:

Better leisure centres in Newcastle are excited to be supporting St. Oswald’s Hospice with sponsorship and special offers over the next 2 years.

We look forward to seeing all of the young runners at this year’s Junior and Mini Great North Run and would encourage everyone who is raising money for St Oswald’s Hospice to take advantage of the discounted family activities we have on offer, as a thank you for your fantastic achievements.

Siobhan Sargeant, Business Partnerships Manager at St Oswald’s, said:

We are thrilled to have Better sponsoring our Mini & Junior Great North Run runners – their t-shirts look fab!

We want to say a big thank you to Better for their support of the work we do at St Oswald’s. We can wait to see hundreds of young runners wearing their t shirts with pride at the Mini and Junior Great North Run.

Alice Maguire, 7 from Gateshead is taking part in her fifth mini Great North Run for St Oswald’s and has raised over £1,000 to date. She said:

I love my new t-shirt, I think it’s my favourite one yet, as I keep them each year to remind me of the day.We had lots of fun at the Better trampoline park – I met some of the other kids doing the run and the staff were really nice and let us go on all the trampolines. I can’t wait for the big day now and I am proud to support St Oswald’s Hospice.
