St Oswald’s is celebrating National Trustees’ Week, which runs from the 13th-17th November, by asking for more Trustees to join our expanding team.
With over a million Trustees in the UK supporting over 194,000 charities, Trustees govern charities and ensure that their objectives, strategic aims and overall direction are established and met. St Oswald’s currently has 11 Trustees who have backgrounds in everything from medicine, finance and law through to HR and the Civil Service.
St Oswald’s is currently going through a period of development and needs more Trustees to join our board. The Hospice requires people with expertise in the following areas; financial, palliative care, third sector, fundraising and commercial. The Hospice would love to hear from those with digital skills too.
Janet Clarke, a St Oswald’s Trustee and volunteer from Morpeth, said:
I initially began volunteering at St Oswald’s in 2005 because of the wide range of volunteering opportunities available and because of the excellent reputation St Oswald’s has for delivering high levels of care. After the Hospice posted an advert for a Trustee from the volunteering cohort in 2011, I thought it would be an interesting way to gain a greater understanding of all the challenges facing St Oswald’s and believed that with my manufacturing and volunteering background I would be well placed to make a positive contribution. Although being a Trustee means that you have to often make difficult decisions, particularly financial ones, it is an extremely rewarding role where you’re given plenty of opportunities to make a positive impact. I massively enjoy working with Trustees from a wide range of backgrounds and love regularly visiting all of the different departments and shops at the hospice. Being a Trustee is an incredibly rewarding experience.
James Ellam, Chief Executive at St Oswald’s, said:
Working with enthusiastic and committed Trustees is a great asset to any charity. They bring huge experience, new perspectives, and really help you see the ‘wood for the trees’ when you’re looking to the future. National Trustees Week provides us with a brilliant opportunity to reflect upon the immense contribution that our own Trustees make to the overall running of St Oswald’s. We’re incredibly grateful to have such brilliant Trustees who give up their time and afford us their skills and knowledge to help assist with the smooth running of our Hospice.
