St Oswald’s is hiring!

St Oswald’s Hospice retail team is hosting a special recruitment drop-in event to promote a series of new opportunities. Next Wednesday, staff and volunteers from across our retail sector will be inviting members of the public to the Hospice to learn about the huge benefits of working with us, including not having to work over the festive period!

If you fancy a change from your current job, an exciting challenge to get your teeth stuck into, or if you want to make the step-up from being a volunteer to having a paid job, then we have some brilliant roles for you.

Could you help to support St Oswald’s as a Shop Manager, Shop Assistant Manager or Support Manager? Would a casual Van Driver role suit you? Perhaps you could even get behind the wheel as the driver of our brand new ‘Ozzy’ bus?

With 28 charity shops across the region, our retail sector makes a significant contribution to the £7.5 million St Oswald’s needs to raise through voluntary giving each year. Our shops are at the heart of our local communities and are a great chance to work with a really diverse group of people. St Oswald’s takes an innovative approach to charity retail with a lots of specialist shops, including our Re-styled by St Oswald’s store, and we’re always looking for the next big project to cater for our customers changing needs.

This event is a perfect opportunity to learn more about St Oswald’s and the brilliant roles we have within our retail sector. The evening is completely relaxed and informal and is a chance to visit the Hospice and chat to some of our staff and volunteers from the retail team over a cup of coffee. Many of our current employees have been existing volunteers or people who have retail backgrounds. By dropping in, you don’t have anything to lose and could potentially gain a new job! You don’t have to prepare anything in advance, so just pop along with your CV and see what St Oswald’s could offer you.

Alice Narcross, 25, started volunteering at her local shop when she was just 19.  She has since built up a career in retail by becoming an Assistant Manager at our big brand Jesmond boutique.

I started volunteering in St Oswald’s Shiremoor shop back in 2011 when I was still a student at University. I initially wanted to develop my confidence and gain retail and customer service skills. When the Jesmond shop opened, my manager at Shiremoor suggested that I apply for the new Assistant Manager vacancy and I’ve never looked back. Each day is different, the role keeps you on your toes and you know the work you are doing supports an amazing charity. I would encourage anyone who has experience or an interest in retail and to attend this drop-in event. St Oswald’s is a great place to develop skills as they value and reward hard work and loyalty.
