Juliette Taylor, a schoolgirl from Ponteland who was recently named St Oswald’s Young Fundraiser of the Year, has been crowned Royal International Miss, International Role Model at the Royal International Miss American Pageant held in America.
Juliette was guaranteed a place in the international contest after winning the Junior Teen category in the British contest last July. The competition was held in Orlando, Florida and saw young women from across the globe competing to win a variety of awards.
Jill Taylor, Juliette’s mum, explained:
This pageant focuses on community work, interview skills, stage presence and confidence. In America Juliette made so many friends and definitely showed American delegates and those from South Africa what she was about. She won a host of side awards including Miss International Fitness Model, Miss Personality, Best in interview, Prettiest Smile, Best Scrapbook, Power of the Crown, Global Volunteer award presented by the Mayor of Orange County and an Appearance medal.
But the ultimate prize - Royal International Miss, International Role Model – was presented to Juliette on her final evening. All her work in the UK helped her to achieve this award. She was the only International Title Holder, and beat girls from all over America and South Africa to win this prestigious title. As part of winning, Juliette has to set up a special International Service Project and she’s chosen to work on a project which gives thanks to first responders. We’re so proud of Juliette and all she’s achieved; she’s always been extremely proactive and charitable and will continue to heavily support St Oswald’s.
What I love about this contest is how we are encouraged to support charities and become role models for other young women. It isn’t just a normal pageant and there is a strong focus on leadership, compassion and charity work. I have long supported St Oswald’s and have helped my dad, Dave Taylor who is a chef at the Hospice, with all of his fundraising endeavours. St Oswald’s is a truly fantastic charity and I am so proud to be able to support and promote it.
Danielle Callender, Community Fundraiser at St Oswald’s, said:
The whole team at St Oswald’s are absolutely thrilled for Juliette and it’s great to see one of our young dedicated supporters receive such phenomenal success overseas. Juliette deserves to be recognised for showing initiative and for the volume of time she spends volunteering and raising money for St Oswald’s. As St Oswald’s relies upon raising £7 million of additional money each year in order to continue to provide high quality care to our patients and their families, the work that Juliette and others do is hugely important. We’re so pleased she has been recognised in this way and we look forward to continuing to work with her in the future.
If you’ve been inspired by Juliette’s story, you can see the many ways in which you can support St Oswald’s here.
