Our Annual Raffle is a very well supported campaign in our calendar of events, and we are proud to announce that in 2016, it raised over £40,191. All proceeds will help support our vital work in the local community.
We were delighted to be able to officially present the winner of our Annual Raffle with their prize this week – a Vauxhall Corsa, kindly donated by Bristol Street Motors Vauxhall Newcastle.
The lucky man was 86 year-old Lawrence Lawson from Killingworth, who purchased his winning ticket after receiving a mailing about our raffle through the post.
Lawrence was invited to Bristol Street Motors Vauxhall Newcastle to collect the keys to his new car, and was congratulated by staff from the dealership and St Oswald’s.
The win is particularly poignant for former Granada TV employee, Lawrence, a father of two, grandfather of eight and great grandfather of four. His late wife, Hazel Lawson, who benefitted from outpatient services offered by St Oswald’s Hospice prior to her death in 2012 and the couple were even invited as guests of honour when the Duke of Gloucester officially opened our Outpatient Department.
Collecting his prize from Bristol Street Motors Vauxhall Newcastle, Lawrence said:
“Since the passing of my wife, Hazel, I have continued to support St Oswald’s Hospice wherever possible and always buy raffle tickets every year. From my own experiences with the Hospice, I know it to be a wonderful place, which provides support to people and their families when they need it most.”
David Crane, chief operations officer at Vertu Motors, the parent company of Bristol Street Motors said:
“This is the second year that we have supported St Oswald’s annual car raffle and I’m pleased that we have been able to help the Hospice raise another significant sum.”
Our fundraising campaign manager, Nikki Wilkinson added:
“Working together in partnership with community-focused organisations such as Bristol Street Motors helps us to continue to be here for local people, when they really need us, so we are very grateful for its continued support. We are also so pleased to have such a wonderful winner in Mr Lawson. We really hope he enjoys his prize and thank him for all of his support.”
Mr Lawson wasn’t the only person taking home a prize; two runners up won £600 worth of flooring, donated by MacGregor Flooring and a laptop computer, given by Total Business Group.
A huge thank you from everyone at St Oswald’s to our generous prize donors and to everyone who bought a ticket and supported the raffle. We will be announcing details of our 2017 raffle in the spring.
