We were delighted to be selected as intu Eldon Square and intu Metrocentre’s joint charity of the year for 2017! And one of the first campaigns we will work on together is the Great North Run, with intu sponsoring the vests of our team of runners.
2016 saw an incredible year for St Oswald’s in the Great North Run, with our highest ever total of over £150,000, raised by our team of 372 runners. This year, we hope to smash this total and put together an ever bigger team, all sporting St Oswald’s vests, carrying the intu logo.
As well as getting behind our runners both centres are keeping the Snowdog memory alive by offering homes to two special members of the pack, who until now, have been travelling around the region. Puggy Banks are smaller Snowdog sculptures that have been converted into a donation box with a difference. intu will offer a home to one at intu Eldon Square and another at intu Metrocentre from February until the end of the year. Customers will be encouraged to feed their spare change to the puggy banks, with all funds supporting the work of the Hospice.
intu are working closely with our fundraising team to devise lots of other exciting ways they can get involved with our work and support St Oswald’s throughout 2017, with April being earmarked as a month of lots of activity
intu staff are also hoping to utilise their volunteering hours by supporting some of our own campaigns and events.
Our corporate fundraiser Siobhan Sargeant said:
“It’s wonderful to have been chosen as intu Eldon Square and intu Metrocentre’s Charity of the Year! We loved working with them during the Snowdog project, so it’s great to be able to carry on the partnership through exciting initiatives such as intu’s Great North Run vest sponsorship and the Puggy Banks. We look forward to a year of fundraising fun and want to thank intu for choosing to work with us.
Clare Cannon, Community Manager, intu North added:
St Oswald’s Hospice is one of the most recognised and hardworking charities in the north east and we are humbled to be able to offer our support as one of our nominated charities for 2017, our teams are so thrilled and excited. We already have a strong team of 20 runners, all participating and raising funds for St Oswald’s Hospice in this year’s Great North Run, so let the training commence!
