Talking about their recent activities, Lizzie Spencer, Clinical Volunteering Co-ordinator said: “Our Lymphoedema volunteers work every day of the week, some on morning or afternoon shifts – some even do both!
“Since June 2021, we’ve logged a total of 525 clinical volunteering hours in the Lymphoedema clinic to help support us with our vital care services. We recently piloted a rapid response clinic for patients who need more urgent treatment and this was significantly aided with the help of volunteers.
“We even won the High Sheriff of Tyne & Wear Award back in spring, in recognition of great and valuable services to the local community, which we were delighted with.”
We caught up with one of the newest Lymphoedema volunteers, Tanisha, to find out about her experience so far. Tanisha said: “It is very rewarding volunteering at St Oswald’s Hospice. I really enjoy interacting with the patients and learning about various types of treatment, like bandaging and emollients.”
Do you enjoy working with patients? Are you looking to gain hands on experience for your studies or future career? Could you give the gift of time and support our wonderful Lymphoedema clinic?
