History of Ozzie Bus
Back in 2016, North East bus company Go North East gifted St Oswald’s a double decker bus and since then we’ve been busy getting him road ready. Some of you may remember we held a public vote on our Facebook page and our supporters chose to call our bus Ozzie.
What can Ozzie be used for?
Ozzie is a promotional bus and will help to raise income and awareness for St Oswald’s in the North East. Whilst Ozzie doesn’t have capacity to transport large groups of people around, he is multi-functional with wheelchair access, a heating system and an upstairs kitchen. Some of Ozzie’s uses include:
Pop-up shop – Ozzie will be stopping off around the North East and will be transformed into a pop-up shop at lots of region-wide events. The bus will help us travel to communities where we don’t have a retail presence such as parts of Northumberland and South Tyneside.
On-board activities – We will be hosting workshops on board the bus, occasionally led by special guests.
Support at events – Ozzie will be available for large-scale Hospice events such as our Christmas Market, Light up a Life and Elmer’s Great North Parade.
Days out – Our Regular Giving team will use Ozzie to promote our lottery and other regular giving schemes to try to encourage sign-ups.
External Hire – Ozzie can be hired by groups wishing to use our bus space for a day. Businesses can use our bus for a ‘Shop Takeover’ challenge and community groups may wish to hire the bus to host workshops or hold meetings.
Education – Ozzie will also be used to help educate people about the work of St Oswald’s and to campaign and dispel myths about Hospice Care.
