The Biscuit Factory launches fundraising initiative in support of our patients and families

The Biscuit Factory, the UK’s largest independent commercial art gallery, has announced their new partnership with St Oswald’s Hospice in support of our services, patients and families.

The collaboration has been launched with a raffle featuring an original painting by renowned local artist, Anthony Marshall. The painting, which depicts the serene lily pond in the Adult Inpatient Unit garden of St Oswald’s, was specially created for the fundraiser and is part of Anthony’s autumn exhibition at The Biscuit Factory. Known for his evocative landscapes and cityscapes, Anthony was inspired by photographs of the hospice’s tranquil garden, sparking a new ‘garden’ series within his body of work.

Kathryn Tye, Strategy & Communications Manager at The Biscuit Factory, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership: “We’re delighted that Anthony generously agreed to donate this original painting to help us raise funds for St Oswald’s. His passion for the project was immediate when he saw the garden images. This marks the beginning of an exciting series of initiatives supporting such a vital facility that we’re incredibly fortunate to have in the North East.”

The gardens are a hugely important feature of our hospice, and Adult Inpatient Unit garden is just one of over 30 separate outdoor spaces. They offer a peaceful place for reflection, relaxation, and even family celebrations.

Anne Tuck, Matron of the Adult Inpatient Unit at St Oswald’s, emphasised the importance of the garden to the patients: “For many, being outside and feeling the wind or seeing the sunshine is something deeply meaningful. I’ll always remember one patient laying out a towel on the grass and sunbathing—it was such a simple yet profound moment of joy.”

The fundraising raffle was officially launched at a private preview event on Friday, 27 September, at The Biscuit Factory. The painting is now displayed in the gallery’s autumn exhibition, which opened to the public on Saturday, 28 September.  It costs just £10 to enter, and as well as the first prize up for grabs, two runners up will win a signed and editioned giclée print of the original painting. Entries close on 17 November 2024.

Funds raised through the raffle will directly support the range of services we offer to adults and children from across the region.

Thank you to The Biscuit Factory for their support of our work!
